I’m On It
Someone says “I’ll look into it”.
And you feel it. The small hesitation. An escape hatch. The door, left open.
“I’ll take a look.” “Let me circle back.” “I’ll try.” They all sound like help, but none are a promise.
Then every so often, someone says three words instead.
“I’m on it.”
We feel this every time we hand off our design.
Our trusted partners bring their expertise, challenge our assumptions, and help us make the design better.
We recently had a steel fabricator take the steel framing around an elevator and suggest a completely different structural layout than what we were proposing.
A concrete trade did the same. They challenged that less concrete would cost less. They suggested thicker concrete that better suited their formwork. Their experience helped us see that, in this case, more concrete cost less overall.
That’s “I’m on it” made real, in steel and concrete.
Most people keep the hatch open. They want a way out if things go wrong.
The ones we remember close the door behind them.
