Eng-Spire Labs: The Soul of Ambleside

At Eng-Spire, we make time for the meaning behind the buildings we design.

Our Ambleside Integrated Design project reminded us why that matters.

The steel is complete and the steel-fibre-reinforced slab has been poured; both are massive milestones for the team.

The slab looks incredible.
Beyond the achievement, Ambleside gave us a chance to pause and reflect together.

Walking the site, sharing lessons learned and swapping stories brought the project to life in a way drawings alone never could.

These moments capture the fun, the essence, the joy of building.

They remind us that our work isn’t only about precision or code compliance, it’s about people, progress, creativity and pride.

When we share those experiences as a team, we carry forward not just technical knowledge, but a shared sense of purpose.

That’s what gives structure its soul.

Structural 101: Stronger Floors, Smarter Future!

One of the quiet success stories at Ambleside is the use of fibre-reinforced slabs.

Perfect for large, open areas, these slabs combine strength, durability and sustainability in one seamless design.

The specification called for a high-tolerance floor that would last for years with minimal maintenance.

By mixing steel fibres directly into the concrete, we achieved a more even distribution of reinforcement, creating a slab that:
🔹 Resists cracking
🔹 Handles heavy loads
🔹 Reduces slab thickness

Which means less concrete, lower costs and a smaller carbon footprint.

It’s a floor that performs better, lasts longer and uses fewer resources; a solid example of engineering progress that is both practical and purposeful.
